Trailing 31-22 with 16:47 remaining in the game, Turner went to work. The Alexandria, La., native scored 12 of his points following the high advantage by the Privateers, accenting his evening with a rim-rocking dunk over Jaroslav Tyrna to give ULM a seven-point advantage with 4:06 left.
Turner finished with a game-high 18 points, tallied his fifth double-double of the season, and moved into a tie for seventh place on the career blocks list with four deflections.
Junior Dynile Forbes scored 15 points off the bench and senior Afam Nweke added 13 to help the ULM (8-15, 4-8 Sun Belt) reserves outscore their counterparts, 34-17.
T.J. Worley scored a team-high 17 points for UNO (10-14, 5-8 Sun Belt) and Kyndall Dykes added 10 with a team-high eight rebounds. The Warhawks out rebounded the Privateers 37-29 in the contest.
A tale of two halves, the first half featured a combined 40 points while the two offenses exploded for 77 in the second.
ULM entered the intermission trailing by a 21-19 mark following the pedestrian opening period. Turner’s six points and six rebounds in the first half were matched by Dykes’ five points and seven rebounds by UNO.
New Orleans came out hitting in the first four minutes of the second period and pushed out in front with a 10-3 run. ULM missed scoring on four of its first five possessions before Turner hit a pair of free throws and the offense took off.
After moving to within striking distance, Forbes drilled a three from the wing with 6:59 remaining. The Privateers briefly took the lead before the Freeport, Bahamas, native pushed the Warhawks back in front for good.
Turner scored six of the Warhawks final 10 points down the stretch and Nweke provided the final nail with a free throw with eight seconds remaining.
ULM shot uncharacteristically poorly from the free throw line, hitting on only 52 percent of its attempts. Entering the game as the second-best team in the conference, the Warhawks went 13-of-25 from the charity stripe.
The Warhawks made up for their shortcomings at the line with a defense that limited the Privateers to 33.3 percent shooting in the game and 31.0 percent in the second half. ULM shot 46.8 percent in the game.
The Warhawks return home on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match-up against in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette. Gaining ground in the West Division race, ULM hosts four of their final six opponents inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
